ADA32 Anniversary Party! On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, from 10 am – 2 pm, The Whole Person invites the community to celebrate the 32nd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) signing. This will be one of many national celebrations on this day heralded as Disability Independence Day. There will be a voter registration drive for Kansas and Missouri residents and food, drinks, music, adaptive sports, and other family-friendly activities. This outdoor event is free and open to the public. On July 26, 1990, President George H.W. Bush signed the ADA into law to ensure the civil rights of people with disabilities. This legislation established a clear and comprehensive national mandate to eliminate discrimination against individuals with disabilities. The ADA has also expanded opportunities for Americans with disabilities by reducing barriers to employment, telecommunications, state and local government, public services and accommodations, and services operated by private entities. Elected officials from Kansas and Missouri will join The Whole Person to commemorate the anniversary, share the value of having a more accessible society, and underscore the importance of voting – a fundamental civil right expanded for people with disabilities thanks to the ADA. This event is partly funded by a grant from The Women in Politics Foundation, Inc., and voter registration will be provided by The League of Women Voters of Kansas & Kansas City.
